Abstract

PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a light emission device providing radiation of light based upon the hydrogen gas enclosed in a sealed container, by arranging a filament capable of DC discharge and the first electrode and in addition, the second electrode which makes a high frequency discharge toward the first electrode. CONSTITUTION:A filament 34, a cylindrical first electrode 20 and a separating member 24 having radiation intensity reinforcing holes 27 are arranged in a tube 22 enclosing hydrogen or heavy hydrogen, the second electrode 21 is arranged in the tube 22 so that it may exactly coincide with the vertical central axis of the first electrode 20, and they are connected respectively to a DC power supply 51, an auxiliary discharge power source 37 and a high frequency power supply 32 through electric conductors 29, 30, 31 held on a stem 25. Then, a discharge of low voltage is started previously by means of the filament 34, and a high frequency discharge is made between the first electrode 20 and the seacond electrode 21 while ionized ions or electrons are existing between the electrodes. Thereby, the decrease of a enclosed gas pressure can be prevented, and the life of a light emission device can be prolonged.
