Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain high performance device in a lateral exciting type laser oscillator, by providing dielectric electrodes in the vicinity of a positive electrode or a negative electrode, and generating a soundless discharge between the positive electrode or the negative electrode and the dielectric electrode. CONSTITUTION:In a single negative electrode 201, a feeding wire 11 is arranged in a glass tube 10, and cooling is made by flowing deionized water 12. In an insulating cover 13 which fixes a discharge path between the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode, gaps 13a and 13b between which an auxiliary gas 701 is passed are provided. A high voltage AC is applied 14, discharge is made between the wire 11 and the negative electrode 201, and the excited atoms and molecules are sent to a discharge exciting part 6 between the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 201. The soundless discharge is generated uniformly in the gap between the negative electrode 201 and the glass tube 10 in the direction of light axis. The ionization degree is further increased by the flow of the auxiliary gas 701. When a DC voltage is applied between the positive electrode 1 and the single electrode 201 under this condiction, the uniform discharge is readily obtained in the direction of the light axis. The electric power of the soundless discharge is about 1/10 of the main discharge, and the life of the negative electrode is prolonged.
