Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform continuous operation for a long time and modification of the surface of a solid at reduced operation cost of apparatus, by generating a corona discharge by applying an alternating high voltage between electrodes and modifying the surface of an object with the generated plasma ions. CONSTITUTION:An object to be treated 2 is a flat sheet and two electrodes are arranged so as to oppose to the surfaces of the object. One electrode is an electrode 1 of a metal plate and the other electrode is an electrode formed of a housing 3 which is an insulator made of glass, a feeder 5 which is a metallic plate set in it and a sealing liquid 4 which is water. The object 2 is set by a support between the two electrodes. The applied voltage is fed from an alternating high-voltage source 6 through conductors 7' and 7''. In this case, the high voltage is fed to the feeder 5 in the housing 3 in which the liquid 4 is sealed through a current lead terminal 8. Discharge points alpha0, alpha1 and alpha2 show plasma paths where the ionization is active at some points of time and discharge points beta0, beta1 and beta2 show adjacent plasma paths where the discharge current is relatively low.
