Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture the titled alloy having characteristics which bring on less change in the hydrogenation pressure to the composition of hydride in the plateau range by heat treating a misch metal-nickel ternary alloy at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:An alloy represented by formula MmNi5-xAx (where Mn is misch metal; A is Al, Cr, Si or Co; when A is Al, Cr or Si, x is 0.01-2; and when A is Co, x is 0.1-4.9) is heat treated at 500-1,000 deg.C for 0.25-6hr under reduced pressure or in an inert gaseous atmosphere, and the treated alloy is cooled. Thus, unstable lattice gaps produced in the manufacture of the alloy disappear, so a singlephase alloy is obtd. Since this alloy reacts with hydrogen at a higher reaction rate in a hydrogen occluding and releasing process, the time required to complete the reaction is shortened, and the occlusion of hydrogen is finished in a shorter time. The alloy itself is not deteriorated by repeating the occlusion and release of hydrogen, and the alloy can be used over a long term.
