PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering in a playback output signal, by providing an auxiliary rotating head, in a rotating head type azimuth recording system video tape recorder. CONSTITUTION:A M1 is a main rotating head having +6 deg. of azimuth angle, S1 is an auxiliary rotating head having -6 deg. of azimuth angle, M2 is another main rotating head having -6 deg. of azimuth angle, and S2 is another auxiliaty rotating head having +6 deg. of azimuth angle. The main rotating heads M1, M2 ae separated from each other by 180 deg.. This is similar to the S1, S2. The main rotating heads and the auxiliary rotating heads are separated by intervals corresponding to two horizontal synchronizing signal periods of a video signal, and are fitted to a rotating disc 3 with a step of intervals corresponding to one track pitch. The lowered part of a playback output signal of the main rotating heads covered with an auxiliary rotating head output signal.
