Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the rate of recognition without reference to variations in character form by writers by reading characteristic information on a writer identified by reading a character sequence for identifying the writer from an external storage device and recognizing characters by referring to the readout information and a recognition dictionary. CONSTITUTION:A number for recognizing a document writer, entered in a document 1, etc., as a character sequence generally by a number, is scanned by a scanner 2, and a recognition device 3 discriminates it by referring to a recognition dictionary in a 1st storage device 4 to identify the writer. Then, a characteristic table of identified-writer's own is transferred from an external storage device 7 to a 2nd storage device 5 by a controller 6 and the recognition device 3 recognizes the character information, read by the scanner, accurately by referring to the contents of the storage device 4 by using a character pattern, expressing the features of the writer, in the storage device 5. Consequently, the rate of recognition is improved without reference to variations in character form by writers.
