CONSTITUTION:The video signal read by the image scanner 1 is converted to a digital signal by the A/D converter 2 and is stored in the memory 3 successively. Data stored in this memory 3 is inputted together with character patterns #1 5A, #2 5B, ... to the resemblance together calculating circuit 4, and resemblance degree data is inputted to the discriminating circuit 6, and the coincidence with the word/ clause dictionary 8 is detected by the comparing and coincidence detecting circuit 7. Further, the coincidence with the grammer dictionary 10 is detected by the comparing and coincidence detecting circuit 9 to discriminate the characters finally in the sentence discriminating circuit 11. After that, discrimination results are stored in the buffer memory 12 for sentence temporarily, and sentence data is output.
