Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the occurrence erroneous reading of characters by producing a read character type table beased on the format data showing the read character type on a slip. CONSTITUTION:A control part 8 that read the format data showing read character type on a slip recognizes the read character type on the slip from the format data and produces a read character type table. While the character pattern train on the slip which is given from a photoelectric converting part 1 is cut out to a character pattern with every character through a quantizing part 2, a preprocessing part 3, a detecting part 4, etc. and then sent to a reconginzing part 7. The reconginition is carried out at the part 7 and in reference to a dictionary 6, and the result of this recognition is fed to the part 8. At the part 8, the result of recognition is rejected in case the result of recognition is not coincident with any character type stored in the read character type table. Thus the occurrence rate of erroneous reading of characters is reduced.
