Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify and obtain the titled compound industrially and advantageously, by treating crude adenine containing 9-phenyladenine with water at a pH in a specific range, and removing the 9-phenyladenine as an insoluble substance.
CONSTITUTION: A crude adeninde containing 9-phenyladenine is treated with water at a pH≥11.0 to remove the 9-phenyladenine as an insuluble substance and purify the adenine. After the treatment with the water, the resultant treated substance is them recrystallized at a pH≤3.5, industrially advantageously 1.0W2.5, to remove the salt of adenine. Preferably, sulfuric acid is used as the acid to be used for adjusting the pH, and a mineral acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid or phosphoric acid is advantageously used.
