Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the length of the coated end part of an electric wire and then to ensure an optical and accurate inspection for the press-fixed state of a terminal, by setting two polarizing plates having 90 deg. difference of polarizing directions to each other on the optical axis of the projecting and receiving systems. CONSTITUTION:The 1st polarizing plate 6 on a projecting optical axis C1 and the 2nd polarizing plate 8 on a reflected optical axis C2 have about 90 deg. difference of polarizing direction to each other. A scanning means 7b is stored into a light receiver 7 containing a number of photodetectors. In such constitution, when the terminal press-fixed part of an electric wire is irradiated from a projecting system A, the beams of both a terminal 1 and a conductor part 2b are directly reflected. While the light at a coated part 2a is irregularly reflected to present a clear contrast between the parts 2b and 2a. Thus the light given from a photodetector which is scanned toward the axis is converted into an electric signal, and then the length L of the coated end part is discriminated by a means 11 whether it is within the allowable value. As a result, the state can be accurately inspected for a press-fixed terminal.
