Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the cycle character and heavy-load character through the formation of a zinc negative electrode by setting a zinc active substance layer on the core metal of the copper whose oxygen content is below the specific value. CONSTITUTION:On the porous core metal 2 formed by working the copper plate including 0.04wt% or less of oxygen content, zinc active substance layer 4 of sheet type is set by intervening the electric conductive adhesive layer 3 made by mixing the fine powder of zinc metal into 5% of PVA solution in order to form a zinc negative electrode 1. Then the separator 8 is held between the zinc negative electrode 1 and the positive electrode 7 provided with nickel active substance and the whole unit is spirally wound in order to form the nickel zinc alkaline battery having cylindrial power generation element 9. Therefore, the battery is free from formation of a local cell caused by copper oxide formed by reaction of oxygen gas and copper and the generation of hydrogen gas is completely suppressed, subsequently it is possible to prolong the discharge cycle life by preventing the separation of the active substance layer 4.
