Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower the unit product of an electric power source and a production cost with use of a combustion heat and recovery of by-produced gas, when CaC2 or a ferroally is produced in an electric furnace, by incompletely burning combustibles in the electric furnace.
CONSTITUTION: When CaC2, Fe-Si, Ca-Si or the like is produced in a closed electric furnace 1, coke 3 and oxygen gas or air 4 are injected through a lance 5 attached into a hollow carbon electrode 6. Another lance 9 comprising carbon ceramics, a water-cooled pipe, etc. is inserted into the furnace, to inject powdrous combustibles, e.g. coke or the like, and oxygen-contng. gas in the same manner. In this case, powdrous coke, coal, gas, liquid fuel or synthetic resin is used as the combustibles. The oxygen amount to be used is controlled at a level such that the combustibles will be burnt incompletely. A heat generated by the combustion is used to save an electric power consumption, while by-produced CO gas is effectively recovered and used. Thus, a production cost is lowered as a whole.
