Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform markedly excellent adjustment of operation load easily and effectively without up-and-down regulation of the electrode by adjusting the supply amount of carbon powder containing material and/or the content of carbon powder fed through the hollow path of the electrode.
CONSTITUTION: CaO and C powder are measured by a means 4 from hoppers 1, 2 respectively and C content of C containing material is adjusted. Supply of C containing material via the means 4 is adjusted by a variably discharging meand 5 and fed via a backflow checking means 5', if necessary. Thus, the supply amount of C containing material and/or C content in it is adjusted in response to fluctuation at a melt zone A (inside the line 11) in the furnace so as to maintain certainly a predetermined level of peration load. And C containing material is continuously fed in a hollow path of the electrode. By this, e.g. variation in a furnace reaction can be detected by fluctuation of electric current which flows from the power transformer 18 via the secondary conductor 19, the electrode 7, the tip of the electrode and the zone A to the carbon layer 12.
