Abstract
PURPOSE: To permit a piston to smoothly operate under super low temperatures, by composing a piston of a core member and a circumference member and by properly determining the coefficient of thermal expansion of said members and a cylinder in such a way that temperature changes of the piston and the cylinder in radial direction becomes substantially equal.
CONSTITUTION: A piston is composed of a core member 1 and a circumference member 2, the core member 1 being secured to a rod 4 by a belt and a connector. Between the outer peripheral wall of the piston formed with its core member 1 and circumference member 2, and an inner peripheral wall of a cylinder 3, a prescribed clearance is provided, thereby causing the piston to smoothly operate. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the core member 1, circumference member 2, and cylinder 3, the thickness of the circumference member 2, and the inner diameter of the cylinder 3 are appropriately determined so that the clearance between the piston and the cylinder 3 can be always kept at a constant level irrespective of the temperature.
