Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the manufacturing steps of a cylinder block and to enhance the cooling effect of the cylinder by providing a liner only a minimum range required for wear resistance at the cylinder from the top dead point of a piston as a standard. CONSTITUTION:A liner 4 is engaged only on the length L1 of minimum range within the cylinder 2 of a cylinder block 1. The lower portion of the liner 4 thus engaged is formed with a sliding surface with the piston (not shown) on the body surface 5 of the cylinder 2. Then, a cooling water chamber 7 is formed on the outer periphery of the cylinder 2. In this case, the liner 4 side is formed normally at the thickness at the water chamber wall, but the body surface 5 side is gradually reduced at the outer diameter portion 6. Accordingly, the thickness of the portion designated by the shade 8 can be reduced to thereby enhance the cooling effect thereof.
