Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a weld zone of discontinuous macrostructure with great layer thickness by setting a TIG current and a wire current to prescribed values and by making the oscillation width of each layer different when an initial layer is welded by a key-hole plasma method and the succeeding layers are TIG-welded.
CONSTITUTION: A groove is made deeply at an about 10° angle and an initial layer is formed by key-hole type plasma welding having the high performance of penetration. Then, a hot wire and magnetic oscillations are used in combination for TIG welding. In this case, a TIG current is set to 200W220A, and a wire current to 100W 150A, respectively. The oscillation width of the TIG initial layer is made greater than the groove width, and those of the succeeding layers are nearly equal to the groove width. Thus, the layer thickness of welded metal is increased and macrostructure ideal for the welding of thick heat resisting steel is obtained.
