Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the reluctance of space in a magnetism passage, by fitting the outside flange of a stator core among the core and outside flange of a rotor and the cylindrical part of a pulley to utilize the pulley as a section of the magnetism passage.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetism passage from the outside flange 17a of the main member 17 of a yoke to an input rotary member 8 for main magnetic flux, which extends through a main magnetic circuit A, is constituted by parallel magnetism passages, one of which extends from an outside magnetic gap 27 to the outside flange 9b of a magnetic circuit member 9 and the other of which extends from a second outside magnetic gap 28 to the magnetic circuit member 9 through the cylindrical part 10b of a pulley 10 and its main part 10a. As a result, the reluctance of space in a branched magnetic circuit and the main magnetic circuit A including the second outside magnetic gap 28 is reduced and the required magnetomotive force of an excitation coil 13 may be low. For that reason, a compact electromagnetic clutch of low power consumption is obtained.
