Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the degree of orientation of magnetic alloy powder and thereby to improve performance by a method wherein the magnetic alloy powder of a rare-earth metal compound whose main components are rare-earth and transition metals is mixed with specified quantities of orientation assistant and organic resin binder and molded and later the binder is set by heating. CONSTITUTION:An alloy ingot prepared by melting and casing a composition of the rare-earth metal compound whose main component is an R2TM17 type phase consisting of the rare-earth metal (R) and the transition metal (TM) is subjected to solution treatment in the ambience of Ar gas and at a temperature of 1,160 deg.C and then to the two-staged aging process at temperatures of 800 deg.C and 750 deg.C. It is pulverized thereafter into particles and formed into the magnetic alloy powder through particle size adjustment. The magnetic alloy powder thus formed is mixed with two kinds of substances, that is, the orientation assistant, such as pulverized stearic acid and zinc stearate, of 0.005-1.5% in weight ratio and the organic resin binder, such as epoxy, of 0.5- 10% and is subjected to pressure molding in a magnetic field and then to the curing process at a temperature of 150 deg.C. By this constitution, the degree of orientation of the magnetic powder is increased, the volume packing ratio of the magnetic body is raised and thus the magnetic performance can be improved.
