Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover arylamide, in high purity, from a mixture of acrylic acid and acrylamide, by adding an alkaline solution to the mixture, and treating with a reverse osmosis membrane, thereby removing acrylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of acrylic acid acrylamide, e.g. acrylic acid solution discharged from the ester polynerization step of acrylic resin preparation process, is mixed with an alkaline solution containing an alkali earth metal hydroxide to adjust the pH of the mixture to 5W11, and to form an acrylic acid salt. The mixture is then treated with a reverse osmosis membrane having a salt rejection of ≥80%, pref. ≥85% to separate acrylic acid from acrylamide, and the acrylamide is recovered. For example, when a mixture of about 25°C is fed to a reverse osmosis module keeping the operation pressure to 55W70kg/cm2, ≥98% of acrylamide contained in the stock mixture is collected to the permeated liquid, and ≥83% of acrylic acid is left in the concentrated liquid.
