Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify both the space and the wiring of a toner sensor and at the same time to avoid a residue of old toner, by controlling a toner supply means with the detection signal sent from a detecting means for toner residual quantity, that detect the quantity of toner within a developing chamber and then supplying the toner into the developing chamber from a supplement toner storing chamber. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic latent image on an electrostatic drum 15 is developed with the toner on a nonmagnetic sleeve 10 made of stainless steel or the like. The toner in a developing chamber 2 is carried on sleeves 8 and 10 on magnetic rollers 7 and 9. A space of about 300mu is secured between the sleeve 10 and the face of the drum 15. Then the toner 4 is supplied by a supply shutter 5 from a toner storing chamber 1 provided at the upper part of the chamber 2. When the exhaustion of toner is detected by a detector S-1 for toner residual quantity, a solenoid provided on the side wall of the chamber 2 works to actuate the shutter 5 via a lever or the like as shown by a dotted line. Thus the toner is supplied into the chamber 2.
