CONSTITUTION: A surface potential meter 17 is provided at the point A near a photosensitive drum 19 or in the position B of the path 14 for transfer paper. Then, exposure is accomplished by an exposure device 12 after the photosensitive drum 10 has been charged with a charger 11 and the latent images formed are developed by a developing device 13 and at the time when they are transferred to transfer paper by a transfer device 15, the detection potential of the surface potential meter 17 at the point A has changed before and after the potential and from this change the failure in the separation of the transfer paper is judged, and from the fact that the detection potential of the surface potential meter 17 at the point B does not change despite elapsing of a constant time after the transfer, the separation miss is judged.
