Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as lubrication oil, rolling mill oil for metal rolling, cutting oil or textile oil, by the ester exchange of dimer acid dimethyl ester with stearyl alcohol using LiOH as a catalyst under heating at a specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The dimer acid distearyl ester of formula is prepared by reacting 1 mole of dimer acid dimethyl easter with 2 moles of stearyl alcohol using LiOH as a catalyst. The amount of the catalyst is ≤0.01wt%, pref. 0.01W0.005wt% based on the dimer acid. The reaction temperature is ≥200°C, pref. 220W260°C.
EFFECT: Since the compound has extremely high stability and very low acid value, it can be used as an oil without causing undesirable side effects. Furthermore, it can be used easily, and fluidized easily by the heat of the system without external heating.
