Abstract
PURPOSE: Using a novel, low-toxicity phase-transfer catalyst such as an amphoteric surfactant or amphiphatic aminoacid, halogen exchange reaction is conducted to produce an alkyl halide at a relatively low temperature in a short time in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of an alkyl halide by halogen exchange reaction, an amphiphatic substance bearing N+ or S+ atoms as cation groups, -SO- or -COO- as anions (both of which can become cations and anions in water) and having 1W 30C long-chain lipophilic groups is used as a phase transfer caralyst. The amphiphatic substance is e.g., a betain-type amphoteric surfactant such as N-alkylbetain or aminoacid-type amphoteric surfactant.
EFFECT: The product is readily extractable and the catalyst is high-safety and inexpensive. When an amphoteric surfactant is used, the separation of the catalyst after the reaction can be readily achieved utilizing the kraft point.
