Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify an organic solvent easily, in high purity, by contacting the organic solvent with a natural stone emanating weak radiation, thereby causing the ionization and agglomeration of the solvent molecules, and then separating the agglomerated solvent mlecules taking advantage of the difference in the specific gravity.
CONSTITUTION: A natural stone emanating weak radiations at a rate of 100W 300counts/min. [e.g. colite (produced in China; 300counts/min.), ovatite (produced in Niigata prefecture, Japan; 160counts/min.), etc.] is made to contact for more than 24 hours with an organic solvent which does not crystallize at normal temperature. The solvent molecules are ionized and agglomerated by this treatment, and the solvent having modified physical properties is obtained in the state of just before the initiation of crystallization. The purification is carried out by the spontaneous sedimentation or centrifugal separation of the agglomerated and denaturated solvent molecules taking advantage of the difference in specific gravity. Thereafter, the agglomerated molecules are separated one another by heating, etc, to obtain solvent having comparable physical properties to those of a high purity solvent obtaine a by conventional purification process.
