Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain substance of high purity in a simple and easy manner by a method wherein a crystalline substance containing impurities is melted, then it is cooled and is subdivided into fine particles, and the particles are fed into a vertical-type purification tower to purify the substance.
CONSTITUTION: A crystalline substance such as dischloronitrobenzene, nitrotoluene, nitrochlorobenzene or cresol which contains impurities such as isomers thereof is melted, then it is cooled on a plate or a drum and the cooled substance is subdivided into fine particles having a particle size of about 0.3W5mm. This raw material in the particulate form is fed into the vertical-type purification tower through a raw material feed port 11, and is allowed to fall while being stirred by swirring vanes 4. The material reaching a bottom part of the tower is heated by a heater 5 so that it is melted to produce a liquid. Part of the liquid is moved upward and is brought into countercurrent contact with the falling raw material, while taking in the impurities of the raw material. Then the liquid reaches a mother liquor level 8, and part of it is discharged via a taking-out port 1 for the mother liquor. On the other hand, the purified substance is taken out via a taking-out port 2 for the objective substance.
