Abstract

PURPOSE: An oil fraction containing fluorene is distilled under concentration regulation of fluorene and 9-methylfluorene and the resultant fraction is subjected to continuous counter-current crystallization to produce high-purity fluorene used as a starting material of resin plasticizer or stabilizer in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: An oil fraction containing fluorene such as treated oil, coal tar fraction of anthracene oil is distilled so that the content of fluorene becomes more than 60wt% and the weight ratio of 9-methylfluorene/fluorene becomes less than 0.1, preferably less than 0.05 to prepare the fluorene fraction. The fluorene fraction is subjected to continuous crystallization to produce high-purity fluorene. The continuous crystallization is carried out by cooling the fraction whose concentration has been regulated to 70W100°C to precipitate the crystal of fluorene and taking out the precipitated crystals by melting at 113W115°C.
USE: A starting material of fluorene derivatives used for production of dyes and drugs.
