Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an oily mold coating material of improved drop between a mold and a casting and smoothness of casting surfaces by using the nongraphite refractories consisting essentially of SiO2 and ZrO2 added secondarily with coal and petroleum type materials as a base material.
CONSTITUTION: An atmosphere control agent of coal and petroleum type such as coke powder, pitch carbon or the like forming gaseous films during pouring is secondarily added at about 1W9wt% basing on the weight of the aggregate in the refractories to the nongraphite refractories consisting essentially of ≥1 kinds of oxides of SiO2 and ZrO2. If necessary, a dye agent is added to this base material and this material is dissolved in an alcohol. The soln. is coated on the mold surfaces after molding. If this mold coating material is used, casting defects such as sand burning and penetration can be prevented by the gaseous film forming effect of the atmosphere control agent. Since it shuts off the gaseous sulfur compound produced from the mold, the spheroidization of ductile cast iron is accelerated.
