Abstract

PURPOSE: To perfectly prevent the surface defects, by heating a continously cost Ni-containing billet to a prescribed temperature, and by lightly rolling it with a prescribed draft percentage.
CONSTITUTION: A continuously cast billet containing about 9% Ni is charged into a steel ingot soaking pit. After making the temperature of this billet uniform, the billet is heated to 1,100W1,300°C at a rate of about 30°C/hr; the billet is retained at this temperature for several hours, and is then lightly rolled with a reducing ratio 1.2W2. Thus lightly rolled billet is heaped up for warming and cooling at a cooling rate of about 5°C/hr. By the present method, the structure nearby the billet surface becomes tenacious, and a defect-free surface is obtained.
