Abstract

PURPOSE: To stably homogenize the titled magnet by cooling an Mn-Al-Zr magnet material to a temp. clse to the γ phase transformation point after soln. heat treatment and by holding it at the temp. followed by rapid cooling to room temp. and tempering.
CONSTITUTION: An Mn-Al-Zr magnet material is subjected to soln. (ε phase) heat treatment at a high temp., naturally cooled to a temp. close to the τ phase transformation point close to about 650°C, and held at the temp. to stably transform the ε phase into τ phase (ferromagnetic phase). After completing the transformation, the material is rapidly cooled to room temp. and tempered at ≥750°C to provide the maximum magnetic characteristics to the Mn-Al-Zr magnet. The resulting magnet is free from the defect of cracking due to a strain produced by hardening from a high temp., and it is stable and homogeneous.
