Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a soft magnetic core suitable for magnetic heads, by preparing a thin core material by the use of an amorphous alloy of FeCo.SiB wherein the composition is specified and the magnetic Curie temperature is lower than crystallizing temperature, forming the material into a core shape, holding the core at a specified temperature, and then rapidly cooling it. CONSTITUTION:A thin core material is prepared by using an amorphous alloy which is expressed by (Fe1-xCox)100-z(Si1-yBy)z, where x=0.90-0.98, y=0.30- 0.80, and z=22-30, and a Curie temperature Tc is lower than a crystallizing temperature Tcry. Then, the material is machined into a core shape. After the core is held at a temperature T which is 0.95XTc( deg.K)<=T( deg.K)<Tcry( deg.K), it is rapidly cooled. In this method, distortion, which has been yielded during the rapid cooling after heat treatment, is disappeared. Furthermore, magnetically induced anisotropy due to the presence of Co in the alloy is also disappeared, thereby the magnetic characteristics are greatly enhanced.
