Abstract

A method is provided for producing electromagnetic silicon steel to produce a cube-on-edge grain orientation having lower core losses and higher magnetic permeability. The method includes, during final texture annealing, using a controlled heat­ ing cycle including an isothermal hold at a selected recrystalliza­ tion temperature of about 1650°F (900°C) for 6 to 20 hours to improve secondary recrystallization and the Goss texture (110) [001], then heating the steel from the selected recrystallization temperature to in excess of 2000°F (1093°C).
