Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the provision of an accurate length measuring device for endoscopes possible by making the distance between the leading ends of a pair of length measuring arms adjustable, and making the signals corresponding to the distances obtainable.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of length measuring arms are provided in an outside pipe in such a way that the projections from their leading ends are free, and the distance between the leading ends is made adjustable. A transmission element is then mounted to one of the leading ends and a reception signal to the other in such a way that they oppose to each other so that the signals corresponding to the distances are obtained. For example, a pair of covered conductors 6, 7 are bundled by a tube 8 and are disposed freely movably forward and backward in an axial direction. Then, the distance between the arm materials 9 and 10 connected to the above-described covered conductors is made adjustable by moving a sliding material 14 in and out. The distance between the leading ends of both arms is determined by way of the optical signal by the light emitting element 11 and photodetector 12 mounted to the respective leading ends. At this time, the bending and the like of the outside pipe does not affect the results of measurement; hence always accurate measurement is accomplished.
