Abstract
The invention concerns a method and an arrangement for counting fish one at a time using a counting device in which a curtain of beams is formed using several pairs of transmitters and receivers which are connected to an electronic counting unit. When the fish swim through the curtain of beams formed in an opening 2 they cause a change in the activation of the receiver sensors 5 whereby the sum of the outgoing currents from the receiver sensors 5 varies as a function of the breadth of the fish. On the basis of the changing points of the sum of the currents, recording of the fish can be carried out one at a time. The arrangement comprises pairs of rods 4, 6 located on opposite sides of the opening 2 in the measuring flanges 1, which rods are installed in pairs essentially in the same straight line, where the outer surface of the rods is profiled and covered with a radiation absorbing substance. By this means, total reflection occurring inside the rods is prevented and only the beams 14 originating from the radiation source 3 in the longitudinal direction of the rod 4 go from the transmitter rod 4 across the measurement opening 2 to the corresponding receiver rod 6 and continue along this to the receiver sensor 5 to carry out the recording stage. <IMAGE>
