Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the dehydratability of sludge without feeding any chemicals by blowing a proper amount of air or oxygen to the excess sludge having increased gellike materials withdrawn from a final sedimentation basin of a water treatment facilaty by an activated sludge method.
CONSTITUTION: If air is blown at, for example, 100W400air/l sludge amount for 10W30hr to the excess sludge having increased gellike mateials withdrawn from a final sedimentation basin, the greater part or part of the gellike materials are removed from the excess sludge by the biochemical reaction of the biological community such as germs which are the constituting factors for the excessive sludge and the mechanical effect of the blown gas. Thereby, the dehydratability of the sludge is improved and the subsequent dehydration operations are made easy.
