Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the damages of optical fiber ends owing to impact at the butting by polishing the optical fiber end faces together with bushing end faces with fiberous products using alumina as abrasive materials, thereby recessing the fiber end faces slightly from the bushing end faces. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 2 is inserted into a ferrule 3, and the end part thereof is inserted into the fine hole of a bushing 4. The fiber 2 is fixed to the ferrule 3 via an adhesive agent 8. Thence, a bushing end face 6 and the end part of the fiber are polished to the same plane with abrasive materials, after which these are buffed with a fibrous product impregnated with a soln. dissolved with powder of alumina, whereby the fiber end face 12 is recessed from the bushing end face 6 by forming a curved face. Hence, when two sets of the optical fiber terminal parts are butted opposite to each other, a cavity 13 of several mu is created in the joined part thereof, and therefore, the direction butting does not occur, and accidents such as flaws and cracks by impact are prevented.
