Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately detect the location and degree of leakage without removing a stored liquid, by a method wherein a liquid contacting the inside surface of a tank is separated from the rest part of the liquid using a box separator to function together with the tank inside wall to detect the reduced water level caused by the leakage. CONSTITUTION:On the inside surface of a side wall 11 and a bottom wall 12 of a tank, or a pool 10, filled with water 1 up to the level indicated by a mark 2 are steel linings 14, 15 attached to the walls. A box separator 20 suspended from a suspender via a rope 18 for hanging is provided with an opening 22 facing the inside surface of the wall 11. A seal member, or a soft gasket 50 has been attached to a flange surrounding the opening 22. When the box separator 20 is pressed against the lining 14, the separator is slightly deformed, allowing the water within a space 23 inside the separator to be separated from the water outside the separator. Therefore, if there is a spot where leakage exists in the part of the lining 14 enclosed by the box separator 20, the level of water in a water gauge 40 will be reduced. Thus the presence of leakage, its magnitude and degree can be detected correctly.
