Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease NOX contained in exhaust gases using a simple device without using any catalysts, by a method wherein pulverized coal having a fuel ratio of not higher than a specified value is added to the exhaust gas generated from the combustion of a coal at a thermoelectric power station, followed by the addition of air for removing unburnt components.
CONSTITUTION: The pulverized coal having a fuel ratio of not higher than 1.8 is charged from a line 4 into the exhaust gas generated from the main combustion of a fuel by main burners 2 fitted to a furnace body 1 for a boiler and over-fire air 3. The NO contained in the exhaust gas is reduced by hydrocarbons, NH3, HCN and the like which are generated from the pulverized coal. On the downstream side, air for removing the unburnt components is introduced through a line 5 to burn the unburnt components such as CO, HC etc. completely and the thus clearned exhaust gas is discharged from the boiler.
