Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce NOx present in exhaust gas simply and effectively by the procedure in which ammonia and urea are added to combustion exhaust gas from boiler, etc., under an air-shortage condition and then air for removing unburned content is added to the gas.
CONSTITUTION: After the main combustion of fuel is made under an air-shortage condition, ammonia and an ammonia precursory substance, e.g., urea, etc., are added to exhaust gas of more than 1200°C, and then sufficient air is added to the gas to fire unburned residue in order to reduce NOx present in the exhaust gas. For example, the main combustion of fuel in the furnace 1a is made under a condition of slightly excessive fuel, or an air-shortage condition, and then NH3 gas or a NH3-forming substance, e.g., urea, etc., is added from the line 6 into the exhaust gas of more than 1200°C in order to decompose NOx present in the exhaust gas into harmless gas N2. Then, unburned content, e.g., CO, etc., staying in the exhaust gas is fully oxidized by air supplied from the line 8.
