Abstract
PURPOSE: To protect a compressor and to improve the heating efficiency of the captioned apparatus by a method wherein when the consumption of electric current exceeds a predetermined value, the supply of electric current to a heater of the apparatus is interrupted in preference to other steps to be taken.
CONSTITUTION: A coolant circuit 6 forms a loop including the compressor 1 having a capacity variable through the switching operation of an electromagnetic valve 8 and an indoor heat exchanger 3 attached with the electrical heater 9 for making a preliminary heating operation. In this circuit, when the output of a current detector 12 exceeds a predetermined value set for a setting device 13 as a result of an increase of load applied upon the compressor 1 during the time when the heater 9 is ON and the compressor 1 is in high capacity operation, a comparator 14 generates an output to a timer circuit 15 and after a lapse of a predetermined time, the timer 15 generates an output A to a bistable multivibrator 20 whereupon a control relay 25 is made OFF to thereby interrupt the supply of current to the heater 9. In this case, when the comparator 14 still continues to generates its output, the timer 15 generates an output B to cause a control relay 26 to be made ON to thereby opening the electromagnetic valve 8.
