Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce noise of a diesel engine and facilitate starting of the same, by igniting a spark ignited fuel during a low speed and light load operation including an idling operation of the diesel engine.
CONSTITUTION: Since a detecting switch has been turned off at the time of starting and idling of an engine, gasoline is injected from a fuel injection nozzle 4 while a throttle valve 10 is slightly opened so that a mixture of low compression ratio is ignited by an ignition plug 5. On the other hand, since the detecting switch is turned on during an oridinary running, gas oil is injected from the fuel injection nozzle 4 while the throttle valve 10 is fairly opened so that the engine can act as a diesel engine of high compression ratio, whereby noise can be reduced.
