Abstract
PURPOSE: Emulsion-spun fiber of polyvinyl alcohol-polyvinyl chloride system, after mechanically crimped, is acetalized and sulfonated to produce the titled fiber with high moisture fastness and little damage on crimping.
CONSTITUTION: Polyvinyl alcohol is dissolved in water and mixed with an emulsion mainly consisting of polyvinyl chloride to form a spinning dope. The dope is extruded into a Glaurber's salt aqueous solution to effect wet sppining to give the emulsion-spun fiber of polyvinyl alcohol-polyvinyl chloride system. Then, the fiber is mechanically crimped, acetalized with an aldehyde such as formaldehyde and sulfonated or sulfated to provide dye sites for cation dyes. The emulsion-spun yarn may be acetalized, crimped and acetalized again, too.
