Abstract

PURPOSE: To make visible ray transmission spectra flat and improve moisture resistance and heat resistance by adsorbing and orienting I2 to a polyvinyl alcohol or its derivative film and impregnating Co ions therein.
CONSTITUTION: A saponified film of polyvinyl alcohol or its derivative polyvinyl acetal, poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) copolymer is stretched, after which it is immersed in an aqueous I2 soln. (KI and boric acid coexist), to be fixed with I2. Next, this film is immersed in an aqueous soln. contg. three compounds of bivalent Co salt such as CoCl2, KI and boric acid to contain Co ions at about 1W50mg in 1g of the polarizing film, after which it is taken out and is dried to make the polarizing film. This polarizing film has flat light transmittability in a visible light region and has considerably improved moisture resistance and heat resistance.
