Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable stable combustion even in the idling of an internal combustion engine with an accessory intake passage, by dividing the inlet end of the accessory intake passage into two portions and prescribing the opened positions of the divided portions to a main intake passage.
CONSTITUTION: An accessory intake passage 22, which has a smaller effective cross-sectional area than a main intake passage 5, comprises an injection nozzle 22a embedded in a cylinder head 2 to serve as the outlet end of the accessory intake passage 22, a passage 22b provided in an intake manifold and two inlet ends 22d, 22e branched from a passage 22c and opened into the air passage 8b of a carburetor 8. The injection nozzle 22a is opened and closed by an intake valve 11. The upstream inlet end 22d is opened upstream to a throttle valve 8d. The downstream inlet end 22e is opened near one end of the throttle valve 8d being in its closed position. The inlet end 22e is opened at an angle of 60W120° to the rotation reference line l1 of the throttle valve 8d.
