Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of any unbalance, which might be caused when the supplied amount of an oxidant or a fuel is changed in response to the variation in the load, by providing a pressure balancing mechanism which constantly balances the pressure at the inlet of an oxidant stream with the pressure at the inlet of a fuel stream. CONSTITUTION:An oxidant supply path 21 of a fuel cell 5 is provided with an electrically-driven valve 22. A differential pressure detector 31 is connected between the lower stream of the valve 22 and a fuel supply path 23. The opened degree of the valve 22 is regulated with a valve regulator 51 according to the output of the detector 31. The detector 31, which is charged with mercury 36, includes main pipes 32a and 32b, and a pipe 33 located between the pipes 32a and 32b, which are connected into U-form. The detector 31 is provided with electrodes 39 and 42, and a current detector 41 is connected between the electrodes 39 and 42. A motor 52 is controlled by the output of the detector 41. Since the output current of the fuel cell 5 is variable, the difference in the pressure, which is caused when the supplied amount of an oxidant or a fual is changed, can be minimized. Consequently, the safety of the fuel cell 5 can be secured.
