Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled fiber that is composed of a fiber-forming polymer and a specific thermoplastic polymer containing a specified amount of stannic oxide and a part of the fiber surface is covered with the latter polymer, thus showing good color tone and high strength and causing no reduction in conductive performance during the fabrication.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A fiber-forming polymer, preferably polyethylene terephthalate of 1,500W4,000 melt viscosity and (B) a mixture of (a) a thermoplastic polymer with a melt viscosity 500W2,500 poise lower than than of polymer A, preferably the same kind of polymer as polymer A, and (b) stannic oxide, as an electrically conductive substance, having a volume resistivity of less than 100Ωcm adjusted to, by 1.0W3.4 times the weight of component (a), preferably made by calcining together with more than 0.1wt% of trivalent antimony compound, is made into conjugate fiber so that the fiber surface is covered with component B at least partially, thus giving the objective fiber. The percentage of component B is preferably less than 50% in the cross section of the fiber.
