Abstract

PURPOSE: An electrically conductive composite fiber, having improved heat resistance, and prepared by bonding and combining an electrically conductive polyester containing a copolymer of an aromatic polyester and a polyalkylene oxide and electrically conductive carbon black with an aromatic polyester.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, is copolymerized with 5W15% polyalkylene oxide, e.g. polyethylene oxide, having a molecular weight of preferably 500W30,000, and the copolymer is preferably mixed with 20W35% carbon black to give an electrically conductive polymer. The resultant polymer is bonded, combined with the aromatic polyester and spun into a sheath- core, side-by-side type composite fiber, etc. at a weight ratio of the polyalkylene oxide to the aromatic polyester of 3W25wt%. The fiber thus obtained is drawn to form the aimed electrically conductive composite fiber having an electrical resistance of preferably 109Ω or less.
