Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a soft braid material for a car with improved formability, surface properties and rust resistance by hot rolling and cold rolling a stainless steel having restricted contents of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Cu and Nb under specified conditions and by carrying out bright annealing.
CONSTITUTION: A stainless steel consisting of ≤0.05% C, ≤0.75% Si, ≤1.0% Mn, 14W18% Cr, 0.3W0.8% Cu, Nb by ≥8 times the amount of C and ≤1.2%, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is refined. This steel is hot rolled, heated to 900W1,050°C, cooled, and cold rolled. Bright annealing is then carried out at 850W1,050°C to obtain a braid material for a car. Since this steel has such a restricted ratio of Nb/C and condition during the annealing after the hot rolling and cold rolling is specified, a soft steel plate having high formability, causing no roping on the surface and no surface roughening after working, and most suitable for use as a braid material for a car can be obtd.
