Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain products in a short time without requiring any secondary pressure medium in a Near Net Shape Hip method by covering a container packed with metal or alloy powder with a metallic or alloy foil and compacting these. CONSTITUTION:For example, gas atomized spherical powder 1 of stellite #6 is packed in a vessel 2 which consists of 1 kind of alumina, silica or glass or their mixture and has a shape approximately identical to the final product shape. In order to prevent the outflow of the powder, the vessel is sealed with a plug 3 of the similar material and the vessel 2 is put in a bag made by welding foils 4 of, for example, SUS304, with <=0.5mm. thickness. The inside of the bag and the inside of the vessel 2 are evacuated simultaneously through a pipe 5. The opening part of the bag is tightly sealed by welding after this is put in a hot hydrostatic pressing device for vessels, where it is compacted under the conditions of about 1,000atm, about 1,150 deg.C and about 2hr holding time, after which the foils 4 are cut, the vessel 2 broken and the product of the solid compact body is removed.
