Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture mold for glass having fine crystal grain texture suitable for molding glass in high yield, at lower cost, and with high productivity by the procedure in which a difinite composition of raw powders are filled into a fixed cavity formed between metal plate cap and support mold, and then sintered to joint them to the support mold.
CONSTITUTION: The metal cap 3 having an inside shape similar to the outside shape of the final mold is fitted on the support mold 2 in such a way that the definite space S is formed between it and the inside surface of the cap 3, and both parts are jointed by welding along each flanged portion. A definite composition of the raw material powder 5, e.g., stainless alloy powder, heat-resistant and corrosion resistant Ni-alloy powder, etc., is filled to the space through the small tube 4 provided to the cap 3 for filling raw material powder while exausting air through the small tube 4 by vacuum, and then after completion of air exhaustion, the small tube 4 is sealed by vacuum. The support mold 2 is inserted into a hot hydraulic press and heated to sinter the raw material and at the same time to joint it to the support mold 2, and then after cooling it under reduced pressure, the cap 3 is removed to obtain the mold 1 for glass.
