Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium which has less fluctuations of the surface and superior rigidity and is rotated at a high speed, by forming a hard magnetic film, having vertical anisotropy, on a base plate made of austenite stainless steel across a soft magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:After the surface of a base plate 6 made of nonmagnetic austenite stainless steel is polished sufficiently, soft magnetic films 7 and 7 are formed on both sides of the base plate 6, and on the formed films, hard magnetic films 9 and 9 made of cobalt chrominum having vertical magnetic anisotropy are further formed to obtain the titled vertically magnetized recording medium 1. Consequently, since the base plate 6 is made of austenite stainless steel, thermal stability is high and the generation of heat in sputtering never deforms the base plate, so that the recording medium 1 is formed without forming unevenness on the surface.
